It’s hard to believe we have been
here for 3 weeks already. It was not
easy getting here. Although our closing
date was December 4 we were told that the buyers wanted to move in before
Thanksgiving and we did what we could to accommodate them.
After filling our first POD, we decided we would
hire movers to fill the second POD and we could probably be ready to close on
November 23. The problem was that 2 PODS
weren’t enough. And after filling the
third POD, 3 weren’t enough. We loaded a
trailer and still had our belongings surrounding us. We decided the only way we wouldn’t have to
haul everything to the curb was to haul it to Texas and rent a storage facility. We left for Kingwood on Saturday
morning. Bud picked up Beau to help him
unload and headed for the storage facility.
They arrived 5 minutes too late.
We decided to go to the apartment and unload everything there. The next problem – we had not signed the
lease yet and more documents were required.
We finally got the lease signed
and unloaded a pressure washer, a generator, assorted lawn furniture and
numerous boxes into our tiny one bedroom apartment. We headed back to Metairie
Sunday morning. We worked around the
clock to clear out the house by Monday afternoon. We spent Monday night with friends and headed
back to Kingwood Tuesday morning. As
stressful as it was, it was nice to be here before Thanksgiving.
We have spent most of our time
furnishing the apartment and transitioning to Texas.
It has been quite a feat to equip such a small apartment. Once we put a coffee pot and a microwave on
the kitchen counter there was no more space.
There is one drawer in the kitchen.
Bud did get his big screen TV though.
Since we have been here, we have
been to a piano recital and a book fair, we have seen it snow and the Saints
are 13-0.
